travel log: day 4

Day 4 in Santo Domingo

I woke up later today, so the rooster was already going as I was making my morning coffee. Apparently, no one likes heavy cream in their coffee down here so I look like an ass trying to track down some heavy cream for my coffee. Well fuck you, it’s delicioso. So is Dominican dark chocolate. And the beef. And the Batatas (Dominican Sweet Potato).

The massive amount of food I am consuming and still remaining lean is asinine. Fuck counting calories. I’m eating 2.5x the calories, with 6x the amount of carbs and still so lean that while JC and I were having lunch he had me take my shirt off to show some guy, who is apparently the Dominican Republic’s top physician, what real workouts, real food, and no cardio can do.

I guess I can’t be too surprised. I was “warned” this might happen. Charles always used to say that whenever he can down here he was able to put on 4-6kg of lean mass within a week. It must be the food and/or the laid bad vibe that creates such anabolism. It’s just eating, training, and learning about training. It’s a fucking great time. I’m sure if I stayed here for any length of time I would be able to put on at least 20lbs. Hmmmmm, maybe I need to take a sabbatical… or hope for another “pandemic.”

Speaking of pandemics, I am in a different world, within a different world. Since I left the U.S., I haven’t been subjected to the never-fucking-ending death scroll of statistics about how many people have failed to take care of themselves. It’s nice not having people and the media continuously try to make you scared to do this thing or that. Maybe it’s because I’m not well-versed in the language, or perhaps the fact that I don’t even care to look any more. The group of people I surround myself with, learn from, and look up to, ALL think this thing is overblown. Most people around here are wearing masks, but there’s no one dying in the streets. You would think a third world country would be thrashed, but it really looks like business as usual. I’m down here no masking and I have no worries about catching anything. People can say what they want but taking care of yourself goes a long way.
